Theodor Breidwieser
Theodor Breitwieser, also Breidwiser or Breidwieser (* 16 July 1847 in Vienna; † 1930 in Kaltenleutgeben) was an Austrian genre and military painter.
From 1866 Breitwieser enjoyed his training at the Vienna Academy under his teacher Eduard von Engerth. He mainly painted military scenes, but also genre pictures from popular life. Inspired by Nikolaus Lenau's poem "The Three", he painted the picture Austrian Uhlans on the March, which Archduke Ludwig bought. Emperor Franz Joseph I also acquired a large number of Breitwieser's paintings, which made the artist popular with the Viennese court circles.
In 1885 Breitwieser traveled to the United States, where he painted some large battle panorama pictures. During this time, some genre and horse representations and scenes from the life of the cowboys emerged, including a "parade in the prairie", which in turn was acquired by Emperor Franz Joseph.
From 1883 Theodor Breitwieser was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus, in 1915 he was awarded the silver medal of the Albrecht Dürer Association.
Many paintings are now in Austrian museums, but even more are privately owned, which means that the paintings are always offered at art auctions.
