Martinus Christian Wesseltoft Rørbye , born May 17, 1803 and died August 29, 1848 , is a painter of the Danish Golden Age . He is known for his pictorial representations of landscapes and architecture.

Martinus Rørbye is the first painter to use, in his painting Strandscene på gamle Skagen med and optrækkende uvejr realized in 1834, the particular luminosity of the village of Skagen , which gave its name to the group of painters of the same name .
