Alexander Helwig Wyant (1836-1892)
Alexander Helwig Wyant ( Port Washington , Ohio on January 11, 1836 - New York on November 29, 1892) was an American painter outstanding in the art of landscapes .
He was a pupil of the Norwegian painter Hans Gude in Karlsruhe , Germany . Wyant's works were mainly landscapes from the heights of the Adirondack Mountains . Wyant was elected in 1869 as an honorary member of the National Academy of Design in New York. During an exploration sponsored by the US government in Arizona and New Mexico in 1872, Wyant suffered a paralysis in his right arm.
